Henderson, Rice Inducted In MLB Hall Of Fame
Monday, July 27, 2009
All time stolen base leader Rickey Henderson and Boston Red Sox outfielder Jim Rice are now the latest inductees into the Baseball Hall of Fame after being inducted on Sunday.
Henderson played 25 years in the big leagues and holds numerous records, the most known perhaps are for stolen bases, (1,406Z) walks, (2,129) and for homers leading off games (81).
Rice was not as flamboyant as Henderson but was a very steady and reliable player for Boston who got voted in to the Hall of Fame in his last year of eligibility. He drove in 100 runs or more eight times and hit .300 or better seven times in a career that spanned 1974-89. He's also the only big league player to have over 200 hits and at least 35 homers for three consecutive seasons, doing that from 1977-79.
